New Heights: Teen Climbing group
What:
This is group uses rock climbing and the outdoors as vehicles to deepen self-knowledge and the capacity for mental and emotional fulfillment. During our three-week program we will be teaching skills and facilitating practices. This learning process will not only come from us as teachers but directly from nature, the rocks and the group. The activities we are creating are designed to enhance our relational life, our capacity to live more fully and regulate our emotional states. We will take a good look to what emotional blocks and limiting mental beliefs hold us back. We will ignite and potentiate our gifts, strengths and higher aspirations. This will be a powerful space to reflect profoundly on life, where we are going and what holds us back. You can expect this work to be fun, challenging and supportive in a way that strengths our self worth and teaches about trust and relationship.
Why:
As therapists and coaches we came to belief that the skills and insights experimented in the confinements of our offices, as profound as they are, can be absolutely enhanced and potentiated by wilderness, movement and group work.
We seem to be leaving in an era where most of us, especially our youth has a limited experience of the power and depth that can be found in nature. We are also in a time where we run the risk of having fleeting, shallow and unfulfilling relationships with others. Finally, this is an era of unprecedented external stimuli, outward referencing and mental agitation. The potential for kids and young adults to get lost, engage in addictive behavior and get confused is huge.
That is why we created a program that combines relational skills and practices that will help us to connect in more fulfilling ways with each other. That connection to self and others will extend to nature and beyond. As we practice moving over the stones, we will slow down and tune in so we can start listening and feeling in a subtler way.
Type of rock climbing
Bouldering: Bouldering is characterized by climbing small rocks with the protection of big pads on the ground (crash pads). As one is climbing, the group “spots” or supports landing when climbers fall into the pads. You can expect to climb 5-10 feet boulders. Bouldering is a highly social form of climbing where the participation of the whole group is crucial.
Top roping:
Single pitch climbs 10 to 40 feet with the protection from a rope coming from the top of the climb.
Technical instruction: Participants are expected to learn during the program and perform basic climbing techniques in the modality of bouldering and top roping. Although we will be offering close supervision, It will be expected from participants to be attentive and look after themselves and each other’s for safety.
Who: Age & Gender:
The age recommendation for this group is between 15 and 19. Participants of all gender and sexual identity are welcome in this group.
Climbing Expedience and physical conditioning:
We do not expect you to have previous rock climbing experience. The type of climbing we will be doing is introductory and beginner level. Depending on each individual and group process we will go to more complex terrain.
We expect participants to be in reasonable shape and physical conditioning to hike, climb, do bouldering and be willing to carry individual and group gear through trails.
Gear:
We ask that participant’s bring a small backpack with water, snack, sunscreen hat and clothes for changing weather.
We ask participants to have their own rock climbing harness and climbing shoes.
Other climbing gear will be provided by the instructors.
Climbing Areas:
Boulder Canyon: We will be meeting at the Justice Center Parking lot (1777 6th street Boulder CO 80302) at 9:00am sharply. Craig and Guili will proceed driving the participants into the specific climbing locations at Boulder Canyon.
Flat Irons: We will be meeting at Chautauqua Ranger Cottage parking at 9:00 sharply . From there we hike or Craig and Guili will be driving the participants to the specific climbing locations around the Flatirons area.
We will be determining each week which one of the locations we are going to meet.
Timing and Punctuality:
Please be at the planned location before 9:00am. We will expect delays of maximum of 10 minutes after 9:00am before we leave to the climbing area.
Content of each session:
Psycho Education: We will be teaching practical mental/emotional skills related to each theme planned for the session.
Experience: Apart from climbing we will be practicing, group dynamics, psycho/somatic exercises that mobilize emotions and deepen relationships with others will be employed.
Process: We will be reflecting on the theory, the experiences and the climbing activity directing the discussion towards how the discoveries and principles made on the rocks and nature apply to different areas of our lives.
Themes and Activities:
Leadership: Get to know and practice your unique ways of taking lead. In a group context, the outdoors and climbing, our awareness, agency and our impact on others is highlighted. The sense of awareness, agency and authorship can be discovered, developed and trained.
Personal Agency: Learn how to get out of your own way and reach out and grab something. Nature, physical activity, deep contact with self and group are some of the ingredients that can elevate and expand our capacity to act in the world with confidence and a sense of purpose.
Self-efficacy: Build your ability to believe in yourself. By learning to focus our attention in the present moment, within an embodied experience in a non-judgmental way we can start noticing progress.
Aspects of our personality and the way we act in the world will become more evident. We will invite you to align more deeply with who you really are and what you bring.
Possibilities: work through limited and outdated beliefs to get to what possible for yourself and your life. Dream, plan, execute and celebrate. As we move in nature, learn end experience how each of those stages can open your sense of what is possible in your life.
Work with Fear: It’s not going anywhere. Learn to lean and befriend fear and see how you change. When you learn to remain close to fear in your body, allow the energy move it becomes your ally. From there the sense of dread can transform into excitement and a sense of aliveness takes place.
Connection to self: Tune into your body, steady your mind and learn to listen to what you feel and need. We will practice in this group, with each other, the environment and our climbing activity a sense of contemplation in action. A meditative (embodied present moment non judgmental awareness to everything that arises) will be our baseline for all we do. From this stance how do we move and assert our selves into the world?

Unraveling the Mysteries of Relationship---A Love-Altering Journey for Couples
Is love enough to make it work long-term? How is it that even the strongest love can wear thin under the stresses of kids, careers, and daily challenges? Is there really any solution to our arguments?
The truth is that there’s a lot of skill involved in relationships that last. And those skills help you maximize the love, security, passion, and acceptance you’re seeking.
That’s what this group is about
Helping you connect deeply.
Providing relief and answers to the most challenging dynamics with your partner.
Seeing and being seen anew again.
Finally feeling understood.
Healing from past hurts.
And preparing you for the rest of your life together---one where the path is clear and the love keeps getting better and better.
As the lifelong learner you are, and as someone who values deep and lasting connection, we invite you to make it a priority to not only educate yourself about the workings of healthy relationships, but to plumb the necessary depths that help your connection feel like an inspiring place to come home to everyday.
Introducing a New Kind of Group Experience...As a Couple
One of the most inspiring and heart-opening experiences I’ve ever had with a partner was to sit down and discuss our relationship with other couples. When we openly talk about things usually left unsaid with other couples who truly get it, entire worlds of possibility get ignited. We see things we didn’t before. We smooth out the rough spots. We get closer. So naturally, I want this for you!
Being welcomed inside another couple’s truths and sharing your own is a privilege that will inspire, open, and awe you.
Format
We’ll meet every week for 10 consecutive weeks. Each week, we’ll bring a new, crucial, and science-backed teaching to your relationship with plenty of time to go deeply into where it is or isn’t working for you. Your connection will grow. You’ll leave each session with new insights, tools, reflections, and opportunities to feel closer and more secure with each other---truly a love-altering journey.
Week 1: Clearing the Path
In our first week, we’ll welcome you to the group and explore personal unfinished business, working to address what’s unresolved so we can clear a path for the deep, loving work in the weeks to come.
Week 2: The Distance that Maximizes the Love
Jealousy, fights, pulling away, and resentment are often the symptoms of a connection struggling to find the right amount of space or the right amount of closeness. We’ll explain the science and help you find the sweet spot where you both feel empowered and met.
Week 3: The Anatomy of Trust
The word “Trust” gets thrown around a lot in relationships, but few really know how to pinpoint exactly what it is. We’ll explain the 7 components of trust and help you heal the places where yours breaks down.
Week 4: The Role of Thirds and Where is Your Attention?
Partnership becomes like a center of gravity for your wellbeing. When it feels secure and strong, you’re able to feel empowered and move freely through the world. But when it doesn’t, it really diminishes your quality of life, so it’s time to consider what might be threatening the bond.
Week 5: Building a Strong Couple Bubble
A strong Couple Bubble is one of the main components of relationships that last. We’ll introduce the 5 ingredients of a strong bubble and go deep with you to help patch any holes.
Week 6: Being Skillful with Needs + Desires
It IS possible to have your needs fulfilled. But it can be confusing to know when to ask for something and when to try to meet your own needs. We’ll explore how you relate to your own needs and then bring them into the relationship in a healthy way.
Week 7: Conflict As a Doorway to Intimacy
Most fights aren’t about what you’re fighting over. They’re about HOW you fight, so learn how to stop looping fights and unresolved issues and instead use the disagreement to actually get closer. Strong couples are ones who know how to create repair after a rift, so we’ll teach you how.
Week 8: Sharing Power + Money + Parenting
Power struggles are often part of relationship, especially when there’s a differential around money or parenting time. We’ll help you find a sense of shared power and healthy collaboration that makes you feel like a strong team.
Week 9: Pandora’s Box: Intimacy, Sex, + Security
How you do sex and intimacy has a major impact on how secure you feel together. Looking into the depths here will show you what’s unconsciously affecting your bond and we’ll work to clear it out to invigorate spark, pleasure, and connection.
Week 10: Love As a Spiritual Path---Your Unique Offering
We believe that when you two came together, your bond created a unique gift---something never before seen that contributes to the world and that’s only possible because you’re together. With loving reflections, we’ll explore the essence of what emerges from your connection so that it can become a guiding light for your relationship.
